Typhoon Nina Projected Path and Tracking 2016: Heading to Northern Philippines (Update)

Typhoon Nina, aka Tropical Storm Nock-ten, maintains its direction as it moves towards northern Philippines. Here is the latest announcement issued by PAGASA:

Update 2: ISSUED AT 11:00 AM, 24 December 2016

Nina has intensified further but slightly slowed down as it continues to move in a west northwest direction.

•Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within its 400 km diameter of the typhoon.
•TY “NINA” is expected to intensify further before making landfall.
•It is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes by Sunday (Dec. 25) afternoon or evening.
•Possible inclusion of Northern Quezon including Polillo Island, Marinduque and Romblon to areas with TCWS #1.
•Sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Visayas.

Location of eye/center: At 10:00 AM today, the eye of Typhoon “NINA” was located based on all available data at 480 km East of Virac, Catanduanes (13.0°N, 128.6°E).

Strength: Maximum sustained winds of up to 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

Forecast Movement: Forecast to move West Northwest at 15 kph.

•48 Hour(Monday morning):In the vicinity of Gumaca, Quezon(13.9°N, 122.2°E)
•72 Hour(Tuesday morning): 200 km West Southwest of Iba, Zambales(14.8°N, 118.2°E)
•96 Hour(Wednesday morning):310 km North Northeast of Pagasa Island, Palawan(13.6°N, 115.0°E)
•120 Hour(Thursday morning):340 km West of Pagasa Island, Palawan (OUTSIDE PAR) (10.9°N, 111.0°E)

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNAL
TCWS 1(30-60 kph Expected in 36 hours)
Luzon:Southern Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Masbate including Ticao and Burias Island.
Visayas: Northern Samar, Samar and Eastern Samar.

Impacts of the wind:
•Very light or no damage to low risk structures,
•Light damage to medium to high risk structures
•Slight damage to some houses of very light materials or makeshift structures in exposed communities. Some banana plants are tilted, a few downed and leaves are generally damaged
•Twigs of small trees may be broken.
•Rice crops, however, may suffer significant damage when it is in its flowering stage.

Wave Height: (Open Sea) 1.25-4.0 meters.

The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next weather bulletin to be issued at 5 PM today.

“Nina” has furthered intensified and continues to move in a west northwest direction.

•Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy rains within its 350 km diameter of the severe tropical storm.

•Sea travel is risky over the Northern Seaboard of Northern Luzon

Location of eye/center:At 10:00 AM today, the center of Severe Tropical Storm “NINA” was estimated based on all available data at 790 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar(11.7°N, 132.9°E).

Strength: Maximum sustained winds of up to 105 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 130 kph.

Forecast Movement: Forecast to move West Northwest at 25 kph.

•24 Hour( Tomorrow morning): 390 km East Northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (12.6ºN, 128.9ºE)
•48 Hour(Sunday morning):190 km East Northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar (13.4ºN, 126.1ºE)
•72 Hour (Monday morning): In the vicinity of Lopez, Quezon (13.9ºN, 122.4ºE)
•96 Hour(Tuesday morning):140 km West of Iba, Zambales (15.4ºN,118.7ºE)
•120 Hour(Wednesday morning):410 km West of Iba, Zambales (15.8ºN, 116.2ºE)
