Predatory Journal “International Journal of Advanced Computer Technology” Spamming Strategy

This Indian journal called “International Journal of Advanced Computer Technology” is spamming my friend’s email, sending three emails in one day, asking him to submit a paper for peer review. This IJACT journal has already been identified as a predatory open access journal. In fact, it has been featured in the popular Jeffrey Beall’s website.

What is predatory open access publishing? It is “an exploitative open-access publishing business model that involves charging publication fees to authors without providing the editorial and publishing services associated with legitimate journals.”

Via Nature:

…predatory publishers publish counterfeit journals to exploit the open-access model in which the author pays. These predatory publishers are dishonest and lack transparency. They aim to dupe researchers, especially those inexperienced in scholarly communication. They set up websites that closely resemble those of legitimate online publishers, and publish journals of questionable and downright low quality. Many purport to be headquartered in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada or Australia but really hail from Pakistan, India or Nigeria.
