Muhammad Ali is Dead at Age 74

Muhammad Ali is dead. The former heavyweight boxing champion, Ali, who had advanced Parkinson’s disease, died Friday after being taken to a Phoenix-area hospital due to respiratory issues. He had been placed on life support to regulate his breathing. He was 74 years old.

A family spokesperson confirmed to NBC News that Ali died Friday at the Phoenix-area hospital. The death comes just days after the boxing legend was hospitalized with a respiratory issue.

Ali he retired from boxing in 1981, five weeks before his 40th birthday, with a record of 56 wins and 5 losses, with 37 knockouts.
