The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has posted that a 7.8-magnitude earthquake has hit the country of Ecuador on April 16, 2016, Saturday.  The center was located about 28km SSE of Muisne, Ecuador. See the quake details below.

Update 1: Vice President Jorge Glas said in a televised address that there were initial reports of 28 dead in the cities of Manta, Portoviejo and Guayaquil. President Rafael Correa asked that residents show strength while the government continues to monitor the situation.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said, “Based on the preliminary earthquake parameters, hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts located within 300 kilometers of the earthquake epicenter.”
