Florence chief prosecutor Giuseppe Creazzo said at a news conference on Thursday that they already arrested the suspect in the death of American expat artist Ashley Olsen.
Senegalese man, 27-year-old Cheik Tidiane Diaw, said that the death was accidental. In a report, he said that he reacted badly when Ashley Olsen tried to push him out of her apartment after they had consensual sex in the early hours of January 8.
Olsen, 35, of Summer Haven, Florida, was discovered Saturday, bruised and scratched. Autopsy tests later showed she had been strangled with a rope or cord.
The two met for the first time at the Montecarla club in Florence early Friday and went together to Olsen’s apartment, where they had consensual sex.
Both had been drinking and possibly taking drugs, authorities said.
