Monkey-Eating Eagle Chick Hatched in the Philippines (VIDEO)
A monkey-eating eagle chick was hatched in a conservation center on Monday. There are only about 600 members of the critically-endangered species left. The bird’s wingspan can exceed 6 feet.
Here is the update from the Philippine Eagle Foundation:
According to PEC Curator Anna Mae Sumaya, at 5 days old, Chick 26 only needs little assistance in feeding as it can already lift its head and get food from the forceps as early as 2 days old.
Chick’s vision is clearer and more developed. Chick 26 can now see from a distance, thus, keepers have to use a puppet during feeding and hide behind a blind to avoid imprinting. Chick 26 is now housed in the K-pad brooder and can tolerate temperature ranging from 27 to 29?.
Most of the time, the chick can be observed sleeping; awake only during feeding, when defecating, and sometimes when playing (biting) with the towel substrate.
