Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Decides Not To Run For Philippine President (VIDEO)

On Monday, after so much speculations, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has announced in a press conference that he will retire from public service next year and will not run for President in the 2016 national elections. Duterte said “hindi ako tatakbo ng Presidente, wala akong ambisyon maging Presidente (I will not run as President, I don’t have any ambition to be President).”

Duterte had been a favorite candidate for president, earning the 4th top spot in Pulse Asia Poll, behind Secretary Mar Roxas, Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sen. Grace Poe.

Malacañang issued a statement about Duterte’s decision.

“Having dedicated many years to public service, he deserves an opportunity to devote his talents and time to other worthy [undertakings],” said Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr.
