Hunter Mastaler: Boy Attacked by a K-9 Police Dog (PHOTO)

It is a sad day for the Mastaler family. The 4-year-old boy, Hunter Mastaler, was mauled by his fathers K-9 police dog named Jango Sunday afternoon at his home in Hesperia in California.

According to the report, the family returned home from a two day trip, the boys’s father let Jango out of his cage and then walked inside the house. While the father was in the shower, the boy went into the backyard and was attacked by the K-9.

Neighbors heard the boy’s scream and quickly went to help release the dog’s mouth from the boy’s legs.

Hunter was airlifted to a hospital, where he underwent surgery and his leg amputated.

Rialto Police Capt. Randy DeAnda told the Daily Press: “Police K-9s are highly trained and usually work under the direct supervision of a handler. Here, there was obviously a timeframe where the dog was not supervised. It was not intentional; it was not an aggressive dog just wandering around.”

The family started a GoFundMe page with a $10,000 goal to help pay for Mastaler’s recovery.
