Massachusetts State Of Emergency Issued Due To Snow Storm (VIDEO)

Gov. Charlie Baker has declared a state of emergency and banned all non-essential motor vehicle travel during the approaching blizzard.

Baker said Monday, January 26, 2015, the state of emergency is effective immediately and the non-essential travel ban goes into effect at midnight.

As a powerful winter storm approached New England, Gov. Charlie Baker warned residents to stay off the roads. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation says it is prepared with 4,000 road crews at the ready, along with 250,000 tons of salt and 420,000 gallons of de-icing liquid.

Officials reminded residents to call their utility companies in the event of power outages, not 911, to leave emergency lines open.
