Typhoon Amang Path and Track 2015: Philippines Cyclone May Hit Islands During Pope’s Visit

Due to a low-pressure area (LPA) (it could turn into a typhoon named Amang, first typhoon to hit the country this 2015), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that they expect rain over the Visayas during the scheduled trip there of Pope Francis later this week.

As of 4:00 am today, 14 January 2015, the typhoon was estimated based on all available data at 1,610 km East of Mindanao (9.0?N, 141.0?E), with maximum winds of 55 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 19 kph.

At 10:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Storm “AMANG” was estimated based on all available data at 665 km East of Borongan City, Eastern Samar (12.0°N, 131.5°E).

Strength: Maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph

Forecast Movement: Forecast to move West Northwest at 19 kph.

Forecast Positions:
•24 hour (Tomorrow evening): 340 km East Northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar.
•48 hour (Saturday evening): 120 km East Northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte.
•72 hour (Sunday evening): Vicinity of Mt. Province.

At 4:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Storm “AMANG” was estimated based on all available data at 220 km East Southeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar (10.9°N, 127.3°E).

Maximum sustained winds of 100 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 130 kph
Forecast Movement:
Forecast to move West at 17 kph.

– 24 hour (Tomorrow morning): 20 km East Northeast of Masbate City.
– 48 hour (Monday morning): 35 km South of Cabanatuan City.
– 72 hour (Tuesday morning): 125 km Northwest of Laoag City.
