Typhoon Mario Path: Philippines Tropical Cyclone 2014 Moves To Northern Luzon

Here is the latest update of Typhoon Mario’s path. According to PAGASA, at 10:30 AM, 18 September 2014, Mario, international name “Fung-wong” was estimated based on all available data at 477 km East of Virac, Catanduanes (13.8°N, 128.7°E). (NOTE: Updates of this post are posted below.)

STRENGTH: Maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

MOVEMENT: Forecast to move West Northwest at 24 kph.

FORECAST POSITIONS: Tropical Storm “MARIO” is expected to be at 172 km East of Casiguran, Aurora by tomorrow morning and at 97 km North Northwest of Aparri Cagayan by Saturday morning. By Sunday morning, it is expected to be at 470 km North Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan or 247 km North Northeast of Basco, Batanes.

LUZON: Catanduanes, Isabela, Aurora and Cagayan, Including Calayan group of Island.

– Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signal #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

– Estimated rainfall amount is from 7 – 20 mm per hour (moderate – intense) within the 300 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.

– The combined effect of Southwest Monsoon and TS “MARIO” will bring moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms in Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

– Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

– The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 5 PM today.

Update from PAGASA: 18 September 2014 at 10PM.

TS MARIO was estimated @436 km East of Baler, Aurora (15.3°N, 125.6°E). Max winds/gust (65/80kph). Forecast to move at WNW @ 26kph.

Tropical Storm “MARIO” is expected to be in the vicinity of Aparri, Cagayan by tomorrow evening and at 90 km Northwest of Calayan Group of Islands by Saturday evening. By Sunday evening, it is expected to be at 493 km North Northeast of Basco, Batanes.

SIGNAL2: Cagayan including Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, Abra and Ilocos Norte

Signal 1: Catanduanes, Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Benguet, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Batanes Group of Islands.

The center of Tropical Storm #MarioPH was estimated at 190 km East of Casiguran, Aurora (16.4N, 123.9E). Max winds/Gust: 85/100 kph.

Synopsis: At 4:00 AM today, Tropical Storm “MARIO” was estimated based on radar and other available data at 137 km northwest of Laoag City, (19.1ºN, 119.7ºeE). With maximum sustained winds of 95 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 120 kph. It is forecast to move north at 15 kph.

Forecast: Calayan, Babuyan and Batanes group of islands and the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Apayao will experience stormy weather with rough to very rough seas. The provinces of Cagayan, Kalinga, Abra and Ilocos Sur will have rains with gusty winds with moderate to rough seas. Central Luzon and provinces of Pangasinan, La Union, Isabela. Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Benguet, Ifugao and Mt. Province will experience monsoon rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. Metro Manila, MIMAROPA and CALABARZON will experience occasional rains. Bicol region, Visayas and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest with slight to moderate seas.
