Joan Rivers

Comedian Joan Rivers died yesterday at age 81, and her daughter Melissa confirmed in a statement on Thursday. Rivers suffered sudden cardiac and respiratory arrest following surgery on her vocal chords at a clinic in New York City on August 28th.

On Thursday night, late night TV hosts made tributes to the legendary Joan Rivers.

“The force and power of her comedy was overwhelming,” said David Letterman. “Joan Rivers, ladies and gentleman. We’re sorry she’s gone.”

“Everyone would howl with laughter,” Conan O’Brien said. “And the next day, they’d talk about it.”

“Besides being a pioneer for women in comedy, for everyone in comedy, Joan was a very lucky person because she loved her job so much. She never wanted to stop, and she didn’t have to stop because she was still great at it,” Jimmy Kimmel said.

“I’ve never sat next to anyone who told more jokes faster than Joan Rivers did when she was here,” said Seth Meyers.
