Typhoon Glenda Projected Path As It Crosses Philippines Islands (UPDATE)

Below is Typhoon Glenda’s projected path as it passes the Philippine islands.

Via NDRRMC: As of 11pm of July 14, #GlendaPH is a typhoon; has slowed down as it moves toward the Bicol region.

With Glenda intensifying in strength, the DSWD, as of 5 p.m., has prepared a total of 35,918 family food packs, 45,473 assorted food items, and 105,601 assorted non-food items ready for distribution to LGUs.

In Bicol Region where signal number 2 has been announced for over five areas, a total of 2,000 family food packs and P2.5 million-worth of rice has been prepared for Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, and Masbate.

In Northern Luzon, 34 disaster operation volunteers under the Bayanihang Bayan Program and 50 skilled volunteers from from the military and the academe are ready for duty. A total of 339 evacuation centers are also identified around the region.

In Cagayan Valley, a surge team with 12 members knowledgeable in disaster management and psycho-social processing was created and ready for deployment. DSWD has identified 65 evacuation centers.

In Central Luzon, 8,242 family food packs and 2,800 sleeping kits were prepositioned to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) offices in Aurora, Bulacan, Olongapo, Tarlac, and Zambales.

Update: July 15, 2014 (Tuesday). In an 11 p.m. bulletin, weather service PAGASA said that Public Storm Signal 3 was raised over the Bicol region, southern Luzon, and Metro Manila.

The provinces under Signal 3 (winds of 101-185 kph is expected in at least 18 hours) include:

Catanduanes,
Albay,
Sorsogon,
Camarines Norte,
Camarines Sur,
Quezon including Polillo Island and Alabat Island,
Marinduque,
Laguna,
Batangas,
Rizal,
Burias and Ticao Islands,
Cavite,
Bulacan, Bataan,
Pampanga,
Tarlac,
Zambales,
and Metro Manila.

Areas under Signal 2 (Winds of 61-100 Kph is expected in at least 24 hours) include:

Southern Aurora,
Nueva Ecija,
Pangasinan,
Romblon,
Masbate,
the northern parts of Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro, including Lubang Island,
and Northern Samar.

Areas under Signal 1 (Winds of 30-60 Kph is expected in at least 36 hours) include:

the rest of Aurora,
Quirino,
Nueva Vizcaya,
Benguet,
La Union,
the rest of Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro,
Biliran,
northern Cebu including Cebu City,
Camotes Islands,
Bantayan Island,
northern part of Leyte,
Eastern Samar,
and Samar.

At 10:45 p.m, the eye of Typhoon Glenda was located 65 km southeast of Alabat, Quezon, with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

Estimated rainfall within Glenda’s 500 km diameter is from 7.5 – 30.0 mm per hour (moderate to intense).

Glenda was moving west-northwest at 19 kph and is projected to cross Metro Manila before noon Wednesday. Glenda will exit the Luzon landmass via Zambales by Wednesday evening.

Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under signals 3, 2, & 1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Also, those living in coastal areas under signals 3 and 2 are alerted against storm surges of up to 3 meters.
