Miss Venezuela Monica Spear Killed During Robbery (VIDEO)
Authorities say former Miss Venezuela Monica Spear and her ex-husband, Henry Thomas Berry were shot and killed when they resisted a robbery after their car broke down.
Prosecutors say the incident went down late Monday night near Puerto Cabello, Venezuela’s main airport. The couple’s five-year-old daughter was also on scene, but is in stable condition after receiving medical attention.
Monica was crowned Miss Venezuela in 2004 and had been living in the United States with her family, working as an actress in numerous Telemundo soap operas.
Venezuela had more than 24,000 homicides in 2013. The U.S. Department of State rates the criminal threat level in Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, as “critical.”
