Jingle Cats Sings Christmas Songs Again (VIDEO)

Jingle CatsThe Jingle Cats are back to sing some holiday tunes!

This year music producer Mike Spalla’s Jingle Cats are back with a new and improved look -they’re clearer than ever in Blu-ray. Spalla has remastered the old albums and included some never before seen footage, just in time for the holidays.

“In the past the Jingle Cats was a music product that was the Jingle Cats, ‘Meowy Christmas’ CD, and then there was ‘Here Comes Santa Claus’ and then there was the ‘First Meowel’ CD and then the Jingle Dogs,” he said. “We had ‘Christmas Unleashed’ and then we always had a little video to go on the news every year. Then we came up with the Jingle Cats DVD and now for this year we have something really fantastic, we have the Jingle Cats on Blu-ray in full high definition.”

Spalla conceived of the Jingle Cats when his cat Cheesepuff “meowed” in a studio sound booth where Spalla was recording an instrumental version of “Jingle Bells.” Cheesepuff’s “meow” was in tune with the song, which gave Spalla the idea to have his cats “meow” to music.

Nine felines, Binky, Graymer, Petunia, Max, Twizzler, Sprikenz, Cheesepuff, Clarise and Cueball, then clawed their way onto American music charts in 1993 when they released the compact disc “Meowy Christmas,” on which they performed to holiday classics like “Oh Come All Ye Faithful,” and “Silent Night.” “Meowy Christmas” became the most requested holiday album for radio stations across the United States that year.

“Somebody just called me this morning and they said they have to have their order, it’s very important that they have their order of Jingle Cats, and that always makes me laugh a little bit to hear how important it is for them to have their order and they always want to have something new for Jingle Cats,” Spalla said. “People love it and they want it for Christmas.”

The cats, along with their record label mates the Jingle Dogs, and the now retired Jingle Babies, have become a bit of an international phenomenon. Their songs have been featured in several major films, including 2007’s “Fred Claus” starring Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti. According to Spalla, they’ve also sold more than two million albums worldwide.
