Liberty University Shooting Ends With One Student Dead (VIDEO)

Liberty UniversityA Liberty University student is dead after an altercation with a Liberty University Emergency Services Officer on Tuesday morning at an off-campus residence hall.

The Liberty University shooting happened at Residential Annex II, which is at 3125 Albert Lankford Drive. The student who was shot and killed is a male student. Residential Annex II is a women’-only facility that is about 3.4 miles from the main LU campus.

The preliminary investigation shows that the shots were fired by an LU Emergency Services officer during a physical altercation with the male student. His identity has not been released yet.

According to a news release from Liberty University: “This appears to be an isolated incident and there is not any ongoing concern for the safety of students or the community.”

Residential Annex II is at the site of the former Quality Inn.

Students living in the dorm were allowed to come and go Tuesday morning as police completed their investigation. They were escorted around the crime scene.

Some of the students we talked with complained about a lack of communication from the university about what was happening. They didn’t receive any official notification about the incident.

Liberty is housing hundreds of students here in what used to be hotels, while construction is underway on several high-rise dorms on the main campus.
