Pittsburgh Shooting Outside Brashear High School (VIDEO)

Shooting-AreaPittsburgh Shooting Updates. Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon at a high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Local outlets have confirmed that shots were fired Wednesday afternoon just before 3 p.m. local time near Brashear High School, a public school of around 1,400 students. Class was dismissed at the school only minutes before the first shots were heard.

WPXI News reported that three people, all students, were shot during the ordeal, although all information at this time is still preliminary. WXPI said the three students were all injured outside of the school when they were shot, and one of the victims is in critical condition at a nearby hospital; the other two received non-life threatening wounds, WXPI said.

The station has also made unverified claims that as many as three gunmen were involved in the incident. WXPI’s Lisa Sylvester heard from law enforcement detectives that authorities believe three men, all wearing black, came out of the woods near the school and then opened fire before walking back into the wilderness.

“Everyone just started running,” Brashear senior Crystal Henson told the network. She told WXPI, “I thought it was just kids playing around,” but then saw police on the scene and knew it was something much more.

Several area networks have reported that police are scouring nearby woods in the Beechview area of Pittsburgh for a possible gunman or gunmen.

Brashear and a neighboring elementary school were both placed on lockdown following the Wednesday afternoon incident as a SWAT team was deployed.
