Morbidly Obese BMI For A 2-Year Old Boy In Saudi Arabia

Obese BoyA 2-year-old boy in Saudi Arabia had undergone a gastric bypass surgery for being morbidly obese. At his young age, he already weighed 70 lbs and was suffering from a dangerous case of sleep apnea which doctors say caused him to stop breathing when sleeping.

According to the report, Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) was performed after investigations ruled out hereditary or genetic causes of obesity. The procedure was well tolerated without any complications and 2 months post surgery, the obstructive sleep apnea decreased substantially. The child was followed up for two years. At the last follow up BMI was drastically reduced from a pre surgical morbidly obese of 41.1kg/m2 to 24kg/m2 at 24 months post surgery.

The surgery was performed in 2010 at the Prince Sultan Military Medical City at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Two years after the operation, the boy now weighs 52 pounds.
