World number one Serena Williams proved that she was the one to beat on Sunday by winning her fifth US Open title — and her 17th Grand Slam crown — with a 7-5, 6-7 (6/8), 6-1 victory over No.2 seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.

She is also now the oldest women’s US Open champion in the Open Era, surpassing the previous record set by Australia’s Margaret Court.
