Kids: Alcohol Mimosas Served Instead Of Orange Juice

BazilParents who took their three young kids to a Rochester, N.Y., restaurant for Sunday brunch are decidedly unhappy that their daughters appear to have been served alcohol mimosas instead of orange juice.

Parents, Jeremy and Dawn DeRoo, claimed that Bazil, a casual dining restaurant, served their three children — ages two, three and seven — alcohol.

The DeRoos tried calling police but said they were told that mistakes happen. Jeremy said it is unacceptable. He wanted an apology from managers and owners of the restaurant and an assurance that steps would be taken so this couldn’t happen again. He told us: “That’s not good enough for parents having kids, drunk and sleeping all day. It’s not fair. These little kids shouldn’t have any alcohol period.”

Bazil’s owner, Danny Daniele, said he was at brunch Sunday, but wasn’t told what happened. When he learned about this, he apologized to the DeRoos, sent them an email and offered to refund the cost of their meal.

Daniele said the restaurant also relabeled its juice containers, so servers would know which contained alcohol.

He said it was the restaurant’s first Sunday brunch, so it’s possible, there could have been a mix-up with the juice containers.

The DeRoos said they don’t plan to sue, but want to make sure this doesn’t ever happen again to anyone else at any restaurant.

Their children are fine, but they are still upset over what happened. Jeremy said it was shocking as a parent to find out his kids were given alcohol.

Daniele said his family has owned restaurants for over 30 years and nothing like this has ever happened.
