100 Gallons Blood Donated By Florida Man Since 1977 (VIDEO)

Blood Donor
84-year-old Harold Mendenhall had a mission, to donate blood to others in need. Since he started in 1977, the South Florida man has reached a rare milestone, being credited with donating 100 gallons of blood. It is equivalent to the blood in 66 human bodies.

“You don’t know who will receive your platelets or your whole blood, and that it immaterial,” Mendenhall said. “You just know that someone needs it and they will acquire it,” he added.

Mendenhall started donating blood when his wife, Frankie, was diagnosed with breast cancer. When she died seven years later, Mendenhall says he was lost. He stopped by the blood bank on his way home from work. Soon he was donating regularly.

Mendenhall says giving blood helped him cope with the loss of his wife and, later, two sons.
