Mozzarella Recalled From Mongiello Italian Cheese Specialties

mozzarellaMongiello Italian Cheese Specialties, DBA, Formaggio Italian Cheese Specialties, a Hurleyville, N.Y., establishment, is recalling approximately 234 pounds of fresh mozzarella with chorizo and cilantro products because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen, soy, which is not declared on the label.

The product subject to recall includes:

– 8-oz. packages of “FORMAGGIO Authentic Hand Rolled Fresh Mozzarella with Chorizo & Cilantro” bearing the establishment number “EST. 34483” inside the USDA mark of inspection with “Use by Dates” prior to 5/31/2013.

The products were produced and packaged on various dates prior to March 28, 2013, and distributed to retail stores in New Jersey and New York.

The problem was discovered by FSIS during a recent Food Safety Assessment. The problem occurred when the company changed chorizo suppliers. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
