Brad Drewett Dies At 54 After Battling Motor Neurone Disease

Brad DrewettBrad Drewett died Friday at age 54. Drewett was a former tour player who led the ATP as executive chairman and helped increase prize money at Grand Slam tournaments.

The tennis player from Australia was the 1975 and 1977 Australian Open Junior champion and the youngest player at age 17 to win the title since Ken Rosewall and John Newcombe. He was also the third-youngest Australian Open quarter-finalist in his first Grand Slam at 17 years and five months in 1975 behind Boris Becker, 17 yrs, 4 days in 1984 & Goran Ivanisevic, 17 yrs, 4 months in 1989.

Drewett won two career singles titles, reached the quarter-finals of the 1976 Australian Open and attained a career-high singles ranking of World No. 34 in March 1984.

Drewett died on 3 of May 2013 after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease in January 2013.
