Face Transplant Recipient Marries Fellow Burns Victim (VIDEO)

Face TransplantA man who was one of the first people in the US to get a full face transplant has married another burns patient he met at a support group.

Dallas Wiens, from Texas, married his partner Jamie Nash today at the same church where he was injured in a freak construction accident five years ago, NBC reports.

Mr Wiens was severely injured at the Fort Worth church in 2008 when he came into contact with a high-voltage power line.

Ms Nash was lucky to survive a horrific accident three years ago in which her car caught fire and she was trapped.

The couple met in a support group at a local hospital, where they were both being treated.

“I was drawn to him. I just had to meet him,” Ms Nash said.

“I just looked at him from across the room, and there was something about him.”

But Mr Wiens – who was left blind by his accident and eventually had a new nose, lips, skin, muscle and nerves transplanted — initially had no desire for romance.

“I had sworn off love and relationships,” he said.

The pair finally went on a date to dinner and a movie and say they have been together ever since.

The couple, who got engaged last fall, exchanged their vows in front of about 200 guests, including the doctors and nurses who treated them.

They now plan to put their pasts behind them.

“There’s no reason to dwell on the past,” Mr Wiens said.

“It’s dead and gone,” his new wife added. “It burned in the fire.”
