Fishermen Find Sisters in Woods After Mother Died in Crash (VIDEO)

This is a story that makes me teary-eyed! A 4-year-old Arianna Rath saved the life of her 2-year-old sister Lylah Huff after their car, driven by their mother, crashed into the woods Wednesday morning. Their mother, Jessica Rath, died on the scene.

“The 4-year old was telling us the story she had said that she actually got the 2-year-old out of the car,” said Bert Haven with the Naselle Volunteer Fire Department. “So as far as we know the 4-year-old got the 2-year-old out of the car and had a blanket of something that she covered them both.”

Kudos also to the two fishermen who stopped to investigate some missing bark they sighted on a tree near the crash site along State Highway 401 between Astoria, Ore. According to the report, Kraai McClure and Scott Beutler travel the two-lane road frequently, and had a gut feeling something was wrong.

“I don’t know exactly what told us to turn around, but I’m just really thankful we did,” McClure said Thursday. The men spotted the wrecked car a few hundred feet from the road. Nearby were the two young girls, scared and confused. “They could say their names but were totally in shock,” McClure said.

The mother may have fallen asleep behind the wheel and veered off the road shortly after midnight. The two girls were discovered at around 8:30 a.m.
