Japanese Restaurant Fines Customers For Not Finishing Food (VIDEO)

The Japanese restaurant is called Hachikyo and is a short walk from Susukino Station in Sapporo, Japan. The restaurant has a policy that food wasters may not like — it charges customers for now finishing their food. If by any reason you cannot finish the meal, you must give a donation. The money goes to fishermen who brave dangerous conditions at sea to provide the delicious fish meal.

Failure to consume a signature dish consisting of a bowl of rice topped with all-you-can-eat salmon roe could results in a surcharge of 1,890 yen (US $25).

A blogger posted the note from the restaurant’s menu: “According to the explanation in the menu, the working conditions for fishermen are harsh and so dangerous that it’s not unknown for lives to be lost. To show our gratitude and appreciation for the food they provide, it is forbidden to leave even one grain of rice in your bowl. Customers who do not finish their tsukko meshi must give a donation.”
