7 Years in Prison Over $2 Subway Fare

ManhattanIt started with skipping out on a $2.25 subway fare. Ruben Sanabria, 37, decided to fare-beat a subway ride March 30 last year. When authorities stopped him, they discovered he had an illegal handgun — a loaded .40-caliber Smith & Wesson.

On Monday, Sanabria was sentenced to 7 years in prison, according to NY Post.

Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr. said Sanabria got what he deserved.

“This defendant illegally carried a loaded semiautomatic firearm into a public transportation system used by thousands of people every day,” Vance said.
