New York State Of Emergency Declared As Storm Nemo Hits Region

blizzardNew York State was the next State to declare a state of emergency after Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts and other parts of New England were braced for a blinding snowstorms, heavy winds, widespread power outages and more than two feet of snow in some regions.

NY Governor Cuomo is urging people to get home as soon as possible, and to try to stay off the roads.

Snow began falling in parts of the Northeast Friday afternoon as 40 million residents were preparing for a heavy winter blizzard that’s expected to batter much of the region by early evening.

The National Weather Service has issued blizzard warnings for the New York City metro area, Connecticut and Rhode Island, eastern Massachusetts and coastal sections of New Hampshire and Maine. Some parts of New England should see more than 2 feet of snow, and some coastal areas could see hurricane-force winds of nearly 75 mph.

As of mid-afternoon, snow was accumulating in Boston, Providence, Hartford, Worcester, Concord, N.H., and Portland. A mix of rain and snow was being reported at Central Park, according to the National Weather Service. At LaGuardia and Newark airports, sleet was being reported, while rain was falling at Kennedy airport.
