What kind of a pastor is Alois Bell? Former Applebee’s employee, identified as Chelsea Welch, posted online a food receipt (the one below) with some scribbles from St. Louis pastor Alois Bell. The scribble said “I give god 10% why do you get 18,” in reference to an 18% tip. The photo has gone viral on social media site reddit, with comments, mostly funny, from readers.
The posting of the receipt did not make Bell happy at all that she called the establishment to demand everyone involved be fired. Indeed, Chelsea was fired.
Chelsea Welch told Consumerist ““I originally posted the note as a lighthearted joke. I thought the note was insulting, but it was also comical. I posted it to Reddit because I thought other users would find it entertaining.”
Now, the pastor has a change of heart and said via The Smoking Gun, “My heart is really broken,” said the 37-year-old Bell. “I’ve brought embarrassment to my church and ministry.” Bell said her notes on the receipt was a “lapse in judgment that has been blown out of proportion.”
Applebee’s issued this statement:
“Our Guests’ personal information – including their meal check – is private, and neither Applebee’s nor its franchisees have a right to share this information publicly. We value our Guests’ trust above all else. Our franchisee has apologized to the Guest and has taken disciplinary action with the Team Member for violating their Guest’s right to privacy. This individual is no longer employed by the franchisee.”
