67 Dead Cats, 99 Live At Home in Wright, New York

cat hoardingTalking about filthy! Exactly, 67 dead cats have been found by raiding officials on Wednesday night, placed in plastic bags and stored in the freezer at a filthy upstate New York home. Another 99 cats were found alive.

A complaint from a neighbor about stench led to the discovery of the dead felines.

The house owner is reported to be Irene Vandyke, 50, a Walmart employee. She is said to have a hoarder mentality.

Schoharie County Sheriff Tony Desmond said, “We felt sorry for her and bad for the kittens at the same time. The minute anyone tried to take her cats, she freaked out and threw them off her property. She definitely had a hoarder mentality. She’s not a horrible person. She just needs help and counseling.”

The surviving cats were taken to a center for medical treatment.
