Tina Turner Renounces Citizenship To Become Swiss

Tina Turner“Proud Mary” singer, Tina Turner, renounced her American citizenship to become Swiss.  The 73-year-old Turner has lived in the Zurich suburb of Kuesnacht for 18 years.

The local Zuerichsee-Zeitung newspaper said on its website the local council announced its decision to grant Turner citizenship in an official notice published in Friday’s edition.

Tina Turner moved from the United States to Zurich and then to Küsnacht in 1995 because of her longtime partner, German music manager Erwin Bach.

She quickly felt at home on Lake Zurich. “She appreciates the beautiful scenery, the friendly people, and the four seasons,” said spokesperson Karin Rhomberg.

Despite the celebrity status there was no favoritism in Küsnacht in granting naturalization. “She completed the normal process, like everyone else,” says Rhomberg.

Three years ago, Turner was honored in Zurich with Swiss Award.
