Beijing Air Pollution Reaches Hazardous Level Says WHO

pollutionThe World Health Organization (WHO) reported that air pollution monitoring in the Chinese capital Beijing has recorded the levels of pollution past danger zone! Official Beijing city readings on Saturday suggested pollution levels over 400. An unofficial reading from a monitor at the US embassy recorded 800. Air is unhealthy above 100 microgrammes. At 300, all children and elderly people should remain indoors.

Inhaling air in Beijing causes respiratory infections, as well as increased mortality from lung cancer and heart disease.

The two main sources of pollution are coal dust and car fumes.
