Fuzhou Rockchip Teases eHome Cloud Solution at CES

The Sky is the Limit for Rockchip, Chinese Semiconductor Company at 2012 CES

FUZHOU, CHINA (9 January 2012) – (Virtual Press Office) – Fuzhou Rockchip Electronics Co., Ltd, a leading developer of fabless semiconductors with an emphasis on Mobile Internet Platforms, will release the RK2918 chip for Google’s Android 4.0 Operating System, and announce the pending arrival of their eHome Cloud Solution at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week.

But, that’s only the beginning! Today, the company announced that they will also feature Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) Tablets with Adobe® Flash® 11 at the world’s largest technology trade show.

As for the eHome Cloud Solution, Rockchip says the technology will be compatible with Android 2.3 initially, and will update to 4.0 in February 2012. This will allow users to wirelessly sync tablets and smartphones with all computers in their family network, exchanging resources, sharing and even playing. Someone’s in the kitchen trying to make a cake and you don’t feel like going downstairs? Show them how it’s done by connecting your tablet to the kitchen computer or their smartphone, sending directions, photos, even video.

The RK2918 chip that drives the eHome Cloud Solution was modeled after the RK2818 chip. A part of the RK27XX series, eHome has aptly been recognized as the most innovative of the series.

Rockchip is quickly closing the gap with Apple® technologies, as they are currently ranked second in the world behind Apple in MP3/MP4 solutions. More than 80 percent of the Chinese tablet market is currently supported by Rockchip – a percentage that would make them a virtual behemoth in North America, clearly entrenching the company as the market leader in that country while laying the foundation for expansion into Europe and North America.

Rockchip’s product can be found in dozens of famous name brand products including Samsung, Philips, Sony, Toshiba and Archos. And with consumer demand for the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich poised to explode across all products and platforms on six continents, Europe and the Americas are logical targets for the Chinese company.

“The global environment is right for our Android 4.0 product, and as a company, we are in precisely the right position to play a major role in satisfying a healthy portion of that demand,” said Chen Feng, Vice President of Rockchip. “We are looking at CES as an opportunity to introduce our latest technology to the trade and the public, as we build towards more solidly establishing our name outside of the Chinese market.”

Since their inception in 2001, Rockchip has quickly emerged as a major player on the Mobile Internet Platforms world stage. The company’s first chip, the 27XX series, provided a great alternative for practically decoding MP3/MP4 products. Last year at CES, Rockchip released its RK2818 processor, and has produced its RK2918 chip only one year later. The 2011 RK2818 chip was the first to decode Google WebM VP8 hardware and is compatible with the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

“The RK2918 provides the heart and soul for the Android 4.0,” said Rockchip’s Feng. “While a rapidly growing number of tablets are currently using Android 4.0, we have incorporated significant upgrades for the 2.3 version that can be integrated directly from the user’s tablet.”

Rockchip will also introduce their new RK2918-based Android 4.0 3G smartphone – the first-ever for TD-SCDMA – at CES 2012, made by US company AirTouch and prepared for China Mobile Communications Corporation, the world’s largest provider. While TD is currently only available in China, Rockchip has chosen to bring the AirTouch 801T to CES because of their new relationship with AirTouch.
