Barack Obama Shot Dead Says Fox News Twitter

Duh! Fox News Twitter reported that Pres. Barack Obama was shot and killed. Yes, on the 4th of July, @FoxNewsPolitics Twitter account posted this:

“@BarackObama has just passed. The President is dead. A sad 4th of July, indeed. President Barack Obama is dead” and “We wish @joebiden the best of luck as our new President of the United States. In such a time of madness, there’s light at the end of tunnel.”

Fox News said that the twitter account has been hacked.

A now-suspended Twitter account @TheScriptKiddie claimed ownership of the hack, tweeting “Fox news politics hacked by the scriptkiddies! http://t.co/6yZDcTS more embarrassment for FoxNews is imitate.” While Twitter responded quickly and took the account down, a second one quickly sprung up at @ScriptKiddi3s, tweeting “Our old twitter was suspended @TheScriptKiddie here is the new, hopefully permanent, address. @FoxNewsPolitics just hacked.”

Fox News issued a statement today:

Hackers sent out several malicious and false tweets claiming that President Obama had been assassinated. Those reports were incorrect, of course, and the president was spending the July 4 holiday with his family at the White House.

The tweets have been removed from the feed.

FoxNews.com alerted the U.S. Secret Service, which is declining public comment. Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager of Fox News Digital, said FoxNews.com was working with Twitter to address the situation as quickly as possible.

“We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts,” Misenti said.

FoxNews.com regrets any distress the false tweets may have created.
