An amazing range of artist notebooks will be in Spiral Bound. Some artists will be showing an entire sketchbook, photocopies of a page, pages of a sketchbook, or a digital/video version of a sketchbook. Two sketchbooks are in the form of digital viewers, and one is of animated sketches viewed over the Internet. These works highlight the inception of an idea – most importantly, a side of artists and the process of art rarely seen. These works-always-in-progress are compelling insights into the many different ways artists work and perhaps, the different ways distinct communities of artists think about art making in their precise regions and cities.

The gallery plans on Spiral Bound being one of many fruitful exchanges between San Diego and New York City artists.

The mission of 214a Gallery is to provide an alternative gallery and project space for the San Diego region, combining and juxtaposing the works from within and without the region, to generate ferment, discussion and development of art, art audiences and artists.
