Shackleford Winner Preakness Stakes 2011

Shackleford beats favorite horse Animal Kingdom to win the Preakness Stakes 2011. Animal Kingdom placed second and Astrology third.

Shackleford placed a strong fourth in the Kentucky Derby after leading for most of the race and finished just 3 ½ lengths back from winner Animal Kingdom.

Pedigree:
Shackleford’s sire was the incredibly quick Forestry who set a record time in the 1999 King’s Bishop Grade 1 race which remains unequalled today. In Forestry’s family tree are both Northern Dancer and Secretariat so Shackleford is built to run fast and hard.

Racing History:
In addition to his strong form in the Kentucky Derby, Shackleford also ran extremely well in the Grade 1 Florida Derby despite being handicapped at 68-1. He led until the last couple of lengths of the race and was just caught by Dialed In’s tremendous run at the finish.
