Maria Sharapova Wins Rome International

It has been a long wait for the former world number 1 tennis player Maria Sharapova. On Sunday, she overpowered Australia’s Samantha Stosur to win the 2011 Rome International 6-2, 6-4. Sharapova’s last title came at the low-key Strasbourg claycourt event on the eve of last year’s French Open.

To enter the final round, Sharapova had to beat current world number one Caroline Wozniacki on Saturday.
