Dead Birds and Fish in Arkansas

The news about the dead birds and fish in Arkansas is eerie, don’t you think? After thousands of blackbirds fell from the sky near Beebe, a small town in northwest Arkansas, another news broke out that an estimated 100,000 fish died in the state’s northwest.

Keith Stephens of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said that fish kills occur every year, but the size of the latest one is unusual, and suggested some sort of disease was to blame. Fisheries officials are now conducting tests to determine the cause of the massive fish deaths.

Biologists believe the bird deaths were stress-related from either fireworks or weather and are unrelated to the fish kill near Ozark, Stephens said.
