Paul McCartney SNL Performance
Paul McCartney and his band sound horrible on SNL. I am sure most viewers would agree with me that Paul McCartney’s voice was noticeably bad and off-key in both of his performances as musical guest on Saturday Night Live tonight.
What do you think of Paul McCartney’s performance on SNL?

The performance was energetic upbeat and just fine. He was pretty good on the skits as well. You are just looking for a reason to write something bad. It was a good updated performance and the songs were edited and restructured a bit as well; so it was something original as well…it was pretty cool especially if you are a fan.
I’m a fan but he did sound a bit rough
Thank you for validating what I heard. I think he could not hear himself, all that equipment, amps and speakers, had to be set up and it wasn’t properly done. The sound balance seemed to get better on the 3rd and 4th numbers, and I think that’s the reason he did them, he knew it was bad on the first two. He is so musical, it almost didn’t matter in the end that he sang so out of tune the first two songs.
I am a fan of his. But last night was just not good for me. But I am still a big fan.
The mix engineer should be fired. His vocals were buried. Couldn’t say for sure if he was on or off key because I couldn’t hear him. No bass and no kick drum either. From what I was able to hear, I’d say he did a great job with what he had to work with. You’ve got to hand it to a guy who can keep going at his age. I hope I can still rock when I’m almost 70.
You are right, it was bad. Do love him, no question, but thought he could have used a Luden’s on a couple of those notes. Made me cringe. There would be no shame in retiring. He’s accomplished plenty for one lifetime.
system was set up wrong or malfunctioning. anyone with neuronal activity could see this.
Look, thers is no way around it. He sang flat and the back ground vocals were horrible. In short, they sounded like an amature cover band.
It was just plain terrible. Obviously there were several things that were off: Paul’s own voice noticable off key and,at times, forced, the sound system that was horrible, the backup guys who were ludicrous, and the absurdity that the the whole ensemble was having a fabulously good time and were unaware of how bad they sounded. If my favorite Beatle can’t sing better than that he should definitely stay off the stage.
I’ve always been a fan of the Beatles. I consider Paul as the greatest singer, song writer, musician that ever lived, however, his decision to constantly tour without giving his vocal chords proper rest has severely damaged his voice. It’s sad to say,but his performance last night reminded me so much of an old fighter who refuses to retire and goes back into the ring for a butt whipping. His creativeness and musicianship are still very much in tack and maybe after a long rest, his voice would return.I would hope that his desire to perform would decrease and his desire to take care of himself increase. The man hasn’t anything to prove by me.
The level of the performances was scandalously bad. Not only McCartney, but the two gentleman doing vocals were often off-key. McCartney’s voice sounded pretty bad and the mix had the instrumentals louder than the vocals — perhaps for a very good reason. I was surprised that the awful performances did not generate more of a buzz in the media.
I think he was only offkey because he couldn’t hear himself. Even the best singers don’t sound so great when they can’t hear themselves.
That said, he is a little long in the tooth now and his voice does sound “older,” but if he wants to perform and people want to go see him perform–let him! He’s earned it.
He is 68 years old!! He has been performing since he was a teenager. Yes, he can’t hit the high notes anymore. The voice just isn’t what it once was. It’s called getting old. But he has accomplished more musically in his lifetime than most can even dream about.
Don’t expect him to sound like he did when he was 20, not gonna happen.
Axl Rose can’t hit those high notes like he did years ago either and he is much younger. Age happens.
So yea, if people still want to go see him and he is willing to get up and do it, knowing his voice is not what it once was, so be it. He has paid his dues and lived the dream.
Time for Sir Paul to hang ’em up. He is not Tony Bennett, and can’t get by just by talking the lyrics. He was totally off-key and sounded horrible. Like so many performers, athletes or competitive people, Paul is still hanging on to old memories.
