Philadelphia Spectrum Demolition Starts

Goodbye 43-year-old Philadelphia Spectrum! The Spectrum demolition started Tuesday. It’s expected to take four to five months for the building to fully come down.

The Wells Fargo Center, a much larger arena, replaces the Spectrum.

Located at the foot of Broad Street in South Philadelphia, The Spectrum opened on Sept. 30, 1967, with a jazz festival; concession stand prices were 35 cents for a hot dog and 25 cents for a 12-ounce soda. It has then hosted decades of professional sports and concerts.
