South Carolina chose tea party-backed Repubican lawmaker Nikki Haley to become the next Governor of the State in the latest South Carolina election results. She would succeed Gov. Mark Sanford whose term-limited tenure ended in January.
She won with about 52 percent of the vote over state Sen. Vincent Sheheen’s 46 percent with 85 percent of precincts reporting.
Nikki Haley becomes the second Indian-American U.S. governor.
