RALEIGH, N.C. — A 14-year-old Ariana says she is willing to risk starting her high school career on perpetual suspension for the right to express her religious views through body piercing. Ariana Iacono has been kept out of school because she has a small stud in her left nostril. She and her mother, though, belong to the Church of Body Modification, which calls itself a non-theistic religion in which members express their faith through tattoos, piercings and the like.
More about the Church
The Church of Body Modification represents a collection of members practicing ancient and modern body modification rites. We believe these rites are essential to our spirituality. Practicing body modification and engaging in body manipulation rituals strengthen the bond between mind, body, and soul. By doing so, we ensure that we live as spiritually complete and healthy individuals.
Wow. Seriously, church of body modification?? People will make up ANYTHING and call it a religion now, just to get their own way in the name of “human rights”. Absolutely ridiculous! How in the hell does altering the body trough piercing & tattooing strengthen the “bond between mind, body & soul”?? Your putting holes & ink in your body! At best, that’s an aesthetic thing, NOT spiritual. But, I do wonder why did this school had a problem with this girl’s piercing?? It’s just a stud; it’s not like it’s a huge ring in between her nostrils. Lots of people have studs in their noses.
OOps, I meant to say why did this school HAVE a problem with the girl’s piercing.
Oops, meant to say why did the school HAVE a problem with the piercing, not had.
