McKinney Shooting Official Statement

Here’s a statement from the city of McKinney about today’s shooting:

Shooting incident at McKinney Public Safety Building. McKINNEY, TEXAS (Aug. 17, 2010) – A shooting incident this morning on and around the property of the McKinney Public Safety Building (PSB) ended with one suspect dead. No public safety officers or citizens were injured.

The deceased suspect has been identified as Patrick Gray Sharp, a 29 year-old white male from Anna, Texas. Officers have no reason to suspect a second individual was involved in the incident. However, an investigation of the incident is underway, aided by the Department of Public Safety, the FBI, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers, Collin College campus police, Plano bomb squad, and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearm and Explosives (ATF).

The entire event lasted less than five minutes. At 9:00 a.m., a pickup truck pulling a trailer pulled into the public parking area in front of the PSB. It was subsequently engulfed in flames; no driver or passenger was inside. The truck was loaded with ammunition that was discharged from the fire.

Shortly after the truck burst into flames, shots were fired on the building from the south. The PSB, which houses administrative offices for the police and fire departments and acts as the city’s police station, is located across the street to the north of the Central Park Campus of Collin College.

Shots were exchanged, and the suspect was confirmed dead by a gunshot wound. It is not clear if the fatal injury was self-inflicted.

Due to the immediacy of the event and the ongoing investigation, the City Council meeting originally scheduled for tonight at 5:30 p.m. has been canceled.
