Collin County Community College Shooting

There had been a shooting incident at Collin County Community College this morning. Here is the latest update released by Collin College.

August 17, 2010 12:05 p.m. – McKinney police are currently debriefing about the details behind a shooting that took place at the McKinney Police Department in McKinney, near the Central Park Campus, 2200 W. University Drive, shortly after 9 a.m. today. A follow-up press conference is scheduled for 4 p.m. to discuss.

A gunman in a Ford pickup truck parked his vehicle, loaded with ammunition, in front of the McKinney Police Department before opening fire. Gunfire was exchanged between the shooter and the McKinney police.

It is confirmed that the gunman is dead. However, the cause of his death is uncertain.

Bullets from the shooting entered a Central Park Campus building. No students, faculty or staff were injured.

As a precaution, the Central Park Campus and the city of McKinney were put on lockdown immediately and students were notified through the college’s emergency alert system.

The lockdown has been lifted, and the city declared the scene secure and has been transitioned into a crime scene. Although the lockdown is lifted, students are not allowed on the campus.
