Flagstaff Fire – Arizona Fire Forces Evacuation

The ongoing Flagstaff fire in Arizona has forced residents of more than 1,000 homes to leave their homes.

The first fire, burning 350 acres in southeastern Flagstaff, forced the evacuation of about 170 homes and briefly shut down a hotel. It remains uncontained.

Authorities know of no buildings that have been burned.

Officials say the second fire, spotted Sunday morning on the northern end of Shultz Pass, has charred more than 500 acres. U.S. Highway 89 northeast of Flagstaff has been closed because of smoke from the blaze.

Crews on the ground, in air tankers and in helicopters are trying to protect homes.
