Ronnie Lee Gardner Execution

Death row inmate, Ronnie Lee Gardner, convicted of murder had been executed in Utah by firing squad. Gardner, 49, was sentenced to death for a 1985 capital murder conviction stemming from the fatal courthouse shooting of attorney Michael Burdell during an escape attempt.

He was the third man to die by firing squad since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated capital punishment in 1976.

Gardner was declared dead at 12:20 a.m.
