Venus Williams Exits French Open 2010

It is a sad day for the American tennis players. Yesterday, Andy Roddick was sent home by the 116-ranked Russian player Teimuraz Gabashvili with 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in less than two hours. Also, the top-seeded Bryan brothers added to the misery of Americans, losing to the team of Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares, 3-6, 6-7 (6). The last casualty went to second seed Venus Williams. Venus Williams exited the French Open on Sunday when Russian 19th seed Nadia Petrova beat her 6-4 6-3 in the fourth-round.

Nadia Petrova will next face fellow Russian Elena Dementieva, the fifth seed, for a place in the semi-finals.

The last hope for the Americans is Serena Williams who carved out a 6-1 1-6 6-2 win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Saturday.
