ICSC Albert Sussman International Community Support Award

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Foundation is pleased to announce the finalists for the Albert Sussman International Community Support Award which honors the best community support program worldwide. The five finalists competing for the ICSC Foundation’s 2010 Albert Sussman International Community Support Award represent the winners from the past year’s Europe, Canada, Latin America, Asia Pacific and the United States competitions. The Sussman award includes an additional $10,000 donation to the winner’s partnering charity.

The 2010 winner will be announced on MAY 23, 2010 in Las Vegas Nevada.

The 2010 Albert Sussman International Community Support Award finalists are:

The British Land Company PLC’s Meadowhall Shopping Centre won the 2009 European Community Support Award for their “The Source at Meadowhall” entry. Since opening, The Source has delivered job training to over 2,000 people, including the long-term unemployed. The Source has also supported more than 250 businesses across South Yorkshire.

Ivanhoe Cambridge’s Southcentre Mall, in Calgary, AB is the 2009 Canadian Community Support Award winner for its “Everyday Angels” program. Each year, the program chooses a charity and provides it with funding through various special initiatives. The support provided by the Everyday Angels program enabled Inn from the Cold to run its shelter, as well as numerous programs designed to break the cycle of homelessness.

Majid Al Futtaim Properties LLC of United Arab Emirates was named the 2009 Asia-Pacific Middle East and Africa Community Support winner for their “Make A Difference” campaign. Majid Al Futtaim Properties owns and operates four shopping malls in the United Arab Emirates. More than 70,000 items, ranging from clothes to used mobile phones, were donated during the shopping centres’ charitable campaign.

The 2009 Latin America Community Support winner was Punta Carretas Shopping Center of Uruguay for their Fundacion Teleton campaign. Their charitable success was due in part to their five major pillars in the campaign, and to the efforts of the shopping mall’s shop assistants, tenants, administrative staff and shareholders. For the Fundacion Teleton the tangible benefit has been raising USD $82,674.00, the greatest contribution ever received by the organization from a business enterprise.

Steiner + Associates and their Zona Rosa Shopping Center of Kansas City, MO was named the 2010 United States Community Support winner for their “Zona Rosa Community Foundation: At the Center of the Community” campaign. The Zona Rosa Foundation provides two yearly renewable scholarships to graduating seniors at the local high school and they support an astounding 50 local non-profits per year.
