Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion in Winter

Watch TCM at 5 p.m. as Katharine Hepburn plays Eleanor of Aquitaine opposite Peter O’Toole as King Henry II for the movie The Lion in Winter. Katharine Hepburn won her third Academy Award for her work in this 1968 adaptation of James Goldman’s play.

Synopsis:
Behind the great stone walls of an English castle, a powerful empire is in crisis. Three sons struggle to win their father’s favor – as well as his crown. King Henry II (Peter O’Toole) and his queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine (Hepburn), engage in a battle of royal wits that pits elder son Richard (Anthony Hopkins) against his brothers, while the cunning King Philip of France (Timothy Dalton) takes advantage of the internal fracturing in his bid to destroy their kingdom.
