Ukraine Parliament Brawl – Ukrainian Parliament Chaos

Parliament scuffle – Lawmakers in Ukraine scuffled with each other, throwing punches and eggs, as parliament met Tuesday to ratify a treaty with Russia that extends the latter’s military presence in the former Soviet Republic. Someone set off a smoke bomb inside the building, while Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn sought refuge behind an umbrella as he was pelted with eggs. CNN

Some parliament members suffled and the opposition Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense bloc said one of its legislators was hospitalized with a concussion after fighting with members of Yanukovych’s party.

The extension passed with 236 votes in the 450-member parliament, but opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko vowed it wouldn’t last. AP
